The History of Ray-Bans
An American brand of sunglasses and eyeglasses created in 1936 by the American company Bausch & Lomb. The “aviation” sunglasses were originally designed to reduce the distraction for pilots caused by the intense blue and white hues of the sky. Their concern was how pilots’ goggles would fog up, greatly reducing visibility at high altitude. “Anti-glare” was then created, using plastic frames and green lenses that could cut out the glare without obscuring vision. The sunglasses were then redesigned with a metal frame the following year and patented as the Ray-Ban Aviator.
Ray-Ban come with and without polarisation and it’s the polarisation that eliminates glare. Which makes this type of sunglasses really good for driving on wet roads as well as water sports. Find out more about polarised lenses.
